Iniciou a carreira em Direito do Trabalho, em Guarulhos, dedicando-se \u00e0s causas de pessoas carentes. Em 1970 mudou-se para Suzano, onde reside at\u00e9 hoje. Aqui continuou suas atividades assistenciais, cuidando do Orfanato Parva Domus-ASA. Foi eleita vereadora, em 1988, com a maior vota\u00e7\u00e3o da \u00e9poca. \u00c9 autora da Lei da Boa Vis\u00e3o. Tamb\u00e9m ocupou o cargo de Secret\u00e1ria da Assist\u00eancia Social, sendo respons\u00e1vel pela implanta\u00e7\u00e3o da LOAS (Lei Org\u00e2nica de Assist\u00eancia Social). \u00c9 uma mulher encantadora, uma esposa exemplar, m\u00e3e zelosa e av\u00f3 coruja. Encontr\u00e1-la \u00e9 sem uma festa. Sem d\u00favida, Mercedes, \u00e9 uma mulher de classe e extremamente ligada \u00e0 fam\u00edlia.
